Check-Ups & Cleanings

The single most important thing you can do for your smile — a thorough exam and a sparkling-clean polish, twice a year.

About the treatment

Preventive care that actually prevents.

A regular check-up and cleaning is the cheapest, easiest, most comfortable appointment in all of dentistry — and it's the one that stops nearly every other appointment from ever needing to happen. Two visits a year is the difference between healthy gums and gum surgery, between a small filling and a root canal, between catching oral cancer early and not.

At Lac La Biche Smiles, your hygiene visit is unhurried. We take the time to remove the tartar your toothbrush can't reach, polish away surface stains, and check every tooth, every gumline, and the soft tissues of your mouth for anything that looks off.

If we find something, you'll know about it the same day — with options, costs and timing laid out clearly before anything is booked.

The process

What happens at your visit

01

Comprehensive exam

We review your medical history and check every tooth, your bite, your gums, and soft tissues. Digital X-rays only as needed.

02

Professional cleaning

Your hygienist removes plaque and hardened tartar above and below the gumline using gentle ultrasonic and hand instruments.

03

Polish & fluoride

We polish away surface stains and apply a topical fluoride to strengthen enamel against decay — leaving your smile fresh and smooth.

04

Personalised game plan

We walk you through findings, brushing/flossing tips for your specific mouth, and any treatment that should be on the radar.

Frequently asked

Your questions, answered.

How often should I come in for a cleaning?

For most adults, every six months. If you have gum disease, diabetes, or you're a smoker, we may recommend every three to four months. Your hygienist will personalise the schedule for you.

Do you take X-rays every visit?

No. We follow Canadian Dental Association guidelines and take X-rays only when clinically needed — typically every 1–2 years for healthy adults, more often for kids or active treatment.

Will the cleaning hurt?

For most patients, a cleaning is a deeply satisfying experience — not a painful one. If you have sensitive teeth or inflamed gums, just let us know and we'll go gentler, use topical numbing, or break the visit into shorter segments.

Is the cleaning covered by insurance or CDCP?

Almost always, yes. Most plans cover two recall exams and cleanings per year. We bill directly to CDCP and most major Canadian insurers, so you only pay your portion at checkout.
