Is it a dental emergency?
If you're unsure, call us — we'd rather hear from you and triage over the phone than have you wait at home wondering. Generally, any of the following deserve same-day attention:
- Severe, throbbing tooth pain that won't settle
- A knocked-out (avulsed) permanent tooth
- A cracked, chipped, or broken tooth
- Facial swelling or signs of a dental abscess
- Lost filling, crown, or bridge
- Bleeding that won't stop after 15 minutes
- Trauma to the jaw or mouth from a fall or sports
- Sudden, severe sensitivity to hot or cold
First aid until you reach us
These steps can protect your tooth and ease pain on the way to the clinic. Call us as you go — we'll prep the room and meet you ready to help.
Knocked-out tooth
Hold the tooth by the crown (never the root), gently rinse with milk or saline, and try to reinsert it into the socket. If that's not possible, store it in milk and call us immediately — minutes matter.
Severe pain or swelling
Rinse with warm salt water, apply a cold compress to the outside of the cheek, and take over-the-counter pain relief as directed. Avoid hot foods. Call us right away — this often signals infection.
Broken or chipped tooth
Save any fragments in milk or saline, rinse your mouth gently, and cover any sharp edge with dental wax or sugarless gum until we can see you the same day.
Lost crown or filling
Keep the restoration if you can find it. Avoid chewing on that side. Temporary dental cement from the pharmacy can protect the tooth overnight, but call us first thing.
